Handsets an Important Factor in Choosing Business Phone Systems

By necessity, business phones are usually a bit more bulky than regular phones. Although technology has greatly reduced the size of business phones in recent years, ergonomics hasn’t necessarily caught up. Of course, when choosing a phone system, some manufacturers’ trunk equipment setups will limit the types of handsets that can be used along with them. For the most part, however, choosing which handset your company will use is entirely up to you. Features are certainly important, but believe it or not, so is feel.

While handset weight, size and comfort seem like a trivial part of phone system purchase considerations, they shouldn’t be. For employees who are on the phone all day, the right handset can improve productivity while reducing strain. While few people spend their entire day chained to their desks anymore, most are there long enough to know whether or not their handset is comfortable enough for all day use. Remember, most inter-office communication is still over the phone, despite the onset of the computer age. The ability to make and receive phone calls without relative discomfort can make a big difference in employee productivity.

More and more business telephone systems are providing support for wireless handsets, which are often much more comfortable to hold and use than traditional handsets. As the display information available on handset terminals is now larger thanks to LCD screens, employees do not have to be practically sitting on top of the phone to see who’s calling or if they have messages from calls they’ve missed. This technology can be very cheap or very expensive, primarily depending on the size of your office and the type of system you use. If you are running a small office with 12 or fewer people, you can buy off-the-shelf cordless systems that will cost you very little. Large businesses may find the expense to be too much.

Some good reasons why to buy a refurbished or used cell phone

Nowadays, more and more hype has been placed around refurbished and used cell phones. So what is all the hype about?

More and more major retail stores are moving into the direction of selling refurbished cell phones on their websites. Take a look at AT&T for example – their top selling cell phones on their web store are their “refurbished” phones.

You ask yourself, well how can this be? How can a company like AT&T be selling refurbished cell phones on their website and how can they be their top selling phones?

Think about it. Do you know of a major cell phone company that does not offer a 30 day no questions ask return policy? Companies like AT&T, Alltel, Verizon, Sprint and others all offer this type of policy and need to do something with the cell phones they receive back from customers during this time period and legally they are not able to sell these phones as new, so they sell them as a refurbished cell phone.

Also, do you have insurance on your phone? If you ever had that Blackberry or Iphone replaced through an insurance program with your cell phone company, the insurance provider needs to do something with the phone. They do not just throw it away. In fact, if you received a replacement phone from your cell phone carrier, I can almost guarantee you that it is a refurbished cell phone.

Each year worldwide, upwards of one hundred millions phones are tossed away into landfills! If it was not for people buying used and refurbished cell phones this number would probably be astronomically higher.

What Are Advantages & Disadvantages of Using Voice Over Internet Protocol?

Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP allows users to make phone calls with a high-speed broadband connection instead of using a traditional phone line. Consumers that wish to switch over to a VoIP service must carefully analyze the advantages and disadvantages. Many users choose to keep their traditional phone line in case of emergencies.

Low Price

One advantage of using a Voice over Internet Protocol is its low price. VoIP service offers customers a low monthly rate, and additional services, such as caller ID, call forwarding, voicemail and call waiting. Traditional phone services offer the same features, but at an additional cost.

Power

A disadvantage of using a Voice over Internet Protocol service is when a VoIP phone connects to a computer during a power outage, the connection will be lost because the service can only work with a stable broadband Internet connection. Power outrages do not affect traditional phone lines unless the phone requires power. Users can make phone calls with their standard phone lines instead of their VoIP phone. A laptop computer that uses its battery power could keep the VoIP service stable for a short period, assuming Internet service is still available.

VoIP Access Anywhere

Another advantage is that VoIP services can be accessed anywhere there is a stable high-speed Internet connection. Users can sign into their VoIP service and make phone calls domestically and worldwide. Users who travel can also access their VoIP services while on the road.
